I am honored

Last night I was invited to a wonderful dinner at my sister in-laws place. The food was delicious. What was even better and more special about last night, was that my niece 'Laura' asked me to be her sponsor. It came as a surprise. I feel so honored to be considered worthy enough to play such an important part in my niece's life. She picked me. Woohoo!
Not being Catholic, this is all new to me so I need to brush up on what I need to do. I must say, I'm looking forward to it. Thankyou Laura :)

Basically like a godparent for a teenager.

Be there 4 her etc.
Nothing to it bar for the service which you will be going to a pre service to tell you what occurs and what you have to do.

And well as far as I remember back then when I was confirmed my "sponsor" bought me a gift.
eg of significance, I was given a watch. But it horse's for courses ask JG.

Hope to catch ya all when I've dropped my bundle in 6 wks

:: Sponsor Requirements ::

A. Everyday, a Sponsor prays for all the inquirers, catechumens and candidates knowing that this work depends on the Holy Spirit for true fruitfulness.

B. Sponsor participates in all the regular meetings/sessions with his/her "soul friend".

C. Sponsor Takes some time each week with your soul-friend to "outreach" and let the Spirit flow through your life by :
Working at getting to know each other; sharing faith stories.
§ * Talking about questions and issues, as they arise.
* General support
* Showing interest
* Asking questions of candidates: challenge, call forth.
* Getting together often, especially at the beginning, to help the inquirers, catechumens and candidates feel at ease and start to know more about our catholic way of life.

D. Finds a way to "keep in touch" with his/her soul-friend even after Christian Initiation has taken place.

E. Makes suggestions to the RCIA team for improvements.

F. Attend all Sponsor meetings.

It's like a godparent type of thing. Any Catholics out there, please explain to all the ignoramous.

Sponsor? why? isn't she an Australian citizen? excuse my ignorance but being an Orthodox 'sponsoring' means something else... :) either way, it's a good feeling to be a sponsor!

So do you sponsor her for every hour she stays on the right side of her faith : )

or perhaps something a little more involved.

Either way : You should feel PROUD .. I hope to mean something special to my nieces and nephews in their future.
