Looking for a VERY portable little digital camera to carry around with me everywhere. I've looked at MANY reviews (Canon IXUS II, S400, Pentax Optio S, Olympus MJU300) but I think the Pentax might be the goer. This is what dpreview.com had to say. I've seen it for $899 (Rip Off) and have found it for as low as $749 (@ Southland) and the dude said we could work on the price even further. Take off another 10% duty and this baby will be less than $675. Not a bad price at all.
Just have a look how big (SMALL) it is.
You guys should know then that I usually buy on impulse. If I spend too much time looking and reviewing I most likely don't buy at all. I think this one might be different though.
Posted by: [jc] at August 21, 2003 12:05 AMdamn, wish i still worked in the city. i love that "looking to buy" mode john get's into..
but i agree with chris, enough f*cking about. buy it..
Posted by: blue yes at August 20, 2003 11:51 PMPlease people, just tell him to buy the damn thing... he's driving me insane at work and making me spend my lunch time at the Camera house and Teds!!! :)
Posted by: chris at August 20, 2003 09:44 PMSweet ;)
Posted by: [jc] at August 20, 2003 12:38 PMDon't think I'll have the CASH free'd up tomozza.
1st I need to get the paperwork moving + funds fully cleared with wife : )
Let the games begin (hehehehe)
Might have to sell something on the SLY.
Posted by: Cheech at August 20, 2003 12:28 PMAre you getting one too Cheech? If so let me know so we can go in together and try to get the price down even lower. Might even do it tommorrow :)
Posted by: [jc] at August 20, 2003 12:18 PMwhere do you plan to use that ZOOM nath?
Posted by: blue yes at August 20, 2003 11:28 AMSince we went looking .. I havn't seen anything more apt for the requirement than the OPTIO S.
I'm sold.
Let me know if you find a challenger.
I'm going to make a purchase in the next 2 weeks.
I'm going in again today to ensure sure the ZOOM will suit my needs.
Posted by: Cheech at August 20, 2003 11:16 AMBingo!
Posted by: [jc] at August 19, 2003 09:42 PMI'm sure you will make the right choice - go for the more whizz bang one......either way can I assume that we will see more pics on your site once you get your camera ??
Posted by: tdl at August 19, 2003 09:26 PMi don't think you can beat 3x optical zoom on something that small. and as you say, you want something to carry around. it will get a little bumped and busied in your travels so go for the cheapest option, take heaps of photos and have fun with it.. i want to see voyeur pics :)
Posted by: blue yes at August 19, 2003 03:06 PMI think (ha I know) you've already made your decision.
Now your just looking for AMMO to help you deliberate the push n shove that is the CREATIVE LAB vs THE ACCOUNT DEPT.
If your interested I'd be up for a RAM RAID on TED's this Thrusday night if your not doing anything. I checked today - there is 2 there .. so we will both go home the proud new owners of an OPTIO S - and perhaps some accessories to go with it. : )
Only if your up for it .,. I can't drive - and do the theivin... min of 2 persons for this job.
LMK
This offer won't be repeated .. and you'd have to love the price. : )
Posted by: Cheech at August 19, 2003 02:34 PMI believe Optical zoom is very important. Cant you sell your body to the night once more Johhny-boi and come up wif da mulla for de Ixus400...
drool...
hehe
Posted by: J at August 19, 2003 02:26 PMThe battle for me is between the Pentax and the IXUS II. I'd luv the IXUS400 but it's way out of my price range. The pentax is leading only slightly based on it having 3x optical compared to canon having 2x. It's a hard decision both camera's are pretty good. The canon takes SLIGHTLY sharper pix. Any opinions would be appreciated.
Posted by: [jc] at August 19, 2003 01:22 PMJC, i checked out the little Pentax Optio S at JB this morning. damn it's small. but i was also surprised at the size of the IXUS II and 400. they're not much bigger..
Posted by: blue yes at August 19, 2003 12:27 PMAs you maybe acutely aware I can only offer my learned view from an aesthetic appearance given that I know SFA about cameras.
As such I reckon that the Canon one looks magic!
Posted by: tdl at August 18, 2003 07:51 PMGive me a buzz tonight at home to discuss further :)
Posted by: J at August 18, 2003 02:03 PMThe IXUS 400 is a masterpiece but I cant justify spending that much on a (have everywhere, get bumped alot) camera. I want something that i can have on me at all times, small and cheap. Very hard to find a small digi for a low price. The $675 is more than i want to pay as well but it's probably the cheapest and smallest 3megapix camera you can get at this point in time.
Hey J, does that mate of yours I bought the Olympus off still work with digi's? Can he get a price for me? I remember he did a fantastic deal for me back then.
Posted by: [jc] at August 18, 2003 01:09 PMyesterday was a little blustery at the G, although no one told Rioli that. so you could forgive players for not kicking perfectly..
if i was a Richmond supporter, i would also be disappointed with this season especially after starting it so well..
Posted by: blue yes at August 18, 2003 12:02 PMOn the Camera thing a guy here at work has a brand new IXUS 400... That is the smallest camera I have ever seen and records small video (3 mins) PLUS 4 MEGAPIXELS...
They are around $1000 in the shops - prob get one for $850 d.free.
John - go see Ted's camera's in Southland they usually do good prices (or so I hear).
Posted by: J at August 18, 2003 11:59 AMLLoyd did take a number of VERY nice grabs and his kicking was excellent. Tigers first quarter was ok but we were standing still for the rest of the game. Richo ran his legs off but like usual was not effective. Bowden floated around on holiday again..
One or two smaller guys went in hard but so MANY basic skills errors and turnovers.. like putting the ball right on the chest of an opponent.. what a joke.
Very hard to see positives now - even for next year... I say trade 7 maybe 8 players out and retire 2 or 3.
Posted by: J at August 18, 2003 11:53 AMI know we lost, but I actually have no idea what the final score was and who did what? I'm pretty sure we must have put in a pathetic effort as usual. I don't mind if we lose, as long as they have put the effort into it. The past 10 weeks all I've seen is a team turning up for the day to get paid and making sure they do as little work for it. If they don't make an effort i don't think I should anymore. Believe it or not this is the first time in my history that I have ever given up on them. I supported their ups and downs in the 80's and 90's but this season has really been hard to watch. Up to you guys to keep the cup in Victoria.
Posted by: [jc] at August 18, 2003 11:36 AMnice camera.. but i love how you've been avoiding the topic of "football" and especially "richmond" for the past few months. did you see lloyd's "roach" style mark over the pack yesterday?
