I think we should take this discussion offline... most people here probably couldnt care less about xbox vs psx..

Besides i will be seeing you soon enough anyway :)

"That's the main diff for me. :-)"..

In Australia its completely legal to flash or insert a mod chip onto your xbox and then run up linux !

As much as Micro$oft dont like you doing that it has been ruled to be 100% legal (in Australia).

I dont see your point... in regard to this issue the two are the same.

Xbox rocks cause you CAN insert bigger hard drive and you CAN go further (illegal etc) if you chose to..

Posted by: J at February 19, 2004 01:25 PM

"but XBOX is more capable, more of a pure PC."

Yes, when you mod it, break the law, and put Linux on it... yeah, then it's more capable :-)

"I dont like the locked down design of the PSX,"

Locked down? Sony sells a Linux kit (not cheap!) to make the PSX anything you want, and it is _legal_ and _supported_, unlike Xbox hacks. That's the main diff for me. :-)

Peace.

This really is a silly argument because no one will ever win! PSX has always maintained market share but XBOX is more capable, more of a pure PC.

I dont like the locked down design of the PSX, I like the shafting of evil Micro$oft with a $100 chip. It comes with an Ethernet port - come on how cool is that...

I use my xbox as a media centre and play moofies and tv shows etc about as much as I play games, cant do any of those things (excluding DVD's ok) on a PlayStation !

So nuff said now.. JC next topic please :)

Posted by: Jase at February 18, 2004 02:39 PM

I still luv my XBOX.

and in the famous words of one Mr Gale

'nuff said...'

Posted by: [jc] at February 18, 2004 08:26 AM

it also will be interesting to see what the new psx will be like...the psx also includes a recordable dvd drive, but downside is that it will cost $$$$$

http://playstation2-linux.com/

Sony supports Linux on the Playstation. :-) So you can do with your Playstation anything you like.

Posted by: shem at February 17, 2004 01:12 PM

Jase, I agree. I just think MS could have done so much better by making the Xbox a general purpose machine with a suitable OS. The thing that makes the Xbox _complete_ for me is Linux. It's just sad that you have to do dodgy shit to get the most out of it, that's all. But yeah, I'm considering one *shrugs*. C'mon Sony, get off your asses!

Update: Have had great success with C64 emulator. Got IK+, Impossible Mission, Mr. Do's Castle... all working fine, so going to download more. I'm so happy, it's just stupid! By the way, at 170K per game, it takes about three seconds to download any 64 game. Might as well get them all. I'm buying a USB joystick and re-living my child-hood. I expect to come out of the basement only for food and weewee.

Re: retro Amiga night. Count me in. I'll bring Polish sweets or something.

Update: I have now installed both an Amiga emulator and a C64 emulator on my iBook. The Amiga emulator struggles a little, and I can't get sound to work (the emulator is still Beta). But the C64 emulator seems to work as advertised. In fact, there's plug-ins for USB joysticks and full-screen mode. I got "Raid Over Moscow" going. It has been 15 years since the last time I typed Load "*",8,1.

Shem, I also host this site overseas for only £15 per year. Go to www.34sp.com and see how cool their prices are. They even let you use your own domain name for free. You would be nuts to pay for hosting here in Oz. Too expensive.

Mat, I think we need to have an Amiga marathon where we pull out all our old Amiga games and play them till day break. Lets not forget the Cheezels, Minties and Coke. Ahh memories.

Posted by: [jc] at February 13, 2004 08:08 AM

Oh my God! Speedball 2 - brilliant game! Thanks for the "sniff" memories! You had me at "Amiga"...

I'm running Movable Type.

http://www.movabletype.org/

It runs on PHP using MySQL to store data.

Dodo (my web server provider) says on their page:

"Things such as ASP, CGI, PHP, Perl scripts won't work and will cause problems if you try these"

Oh oh. How the heck am I going to implment comments then? I suppose server-side applets are out of the question too. How do your comments work John? (You obviously have more services on your web server than I do!)

PS: Thanks for the promotion :-)
