Today I looked in my inbox and I had 135 room6 spam comments emailed to me. I've been using MT-Blacklist which does a pretty good job of keeping the spam away but it can't cater for all the new spam.
So I went hunting for a secondary solution and found this. MTCloseComments. This basically stops people from adding comments to entries that happen to be older than a predefined date. I will only allow the ability for users to enter comments to room6 entries that are no older than x days (21 for now).
The download is here.

Posted by: J at August 5, 2004 12:35 PMLet me get this right. You're saying that comments posted here have to go through a spam filter? You're getting spam posts? Would this be because Movable Type is hunted down by spammers? I'm assuming they must have bots searching out Movable Type databases or something.... or how else do they find you?
Posted by: Shem Mazur at August 5, 2004 11:23 AMThere is a configuration setting that allows me to switch on anonymous commenting. By doing this though will prevent me from using the blocking mechanisms I have put in place to stop these spammers.
Posted by: [jc] at August 4, 2004 05:38 PMCan you make Room6 posters' email addresses optional?
