Well it always takes an event or a trigger of some sort to make you look at yourself and decide it's time to start exercising for the sake of fitness, health and even vanity.
Last Saturday, I went to an engagement and had several relatives comment on how I've chunked up lately. Well seeing that lately i've been having back pains and have progressively put on weight since I got married, these comments had a pretty heavy impact on me. But in normal John fashion, I had forgotten about the comments the very next morning, until...
Until I hopped onto the scales and found I was 0.5kg away from hitting the 90kg mark. That my friends was the trigger. When I got married 8 years ago I weighed approx 75kg, now I weigh 89.5kg.
As of yesterday I have decided 'It's Time'. Michelle has agreed to support me at home and stop me from eating all the sweets I go crazy on when I get home from work each night. At work I have Barbs (an Australian Tri-athlete champ) keeping me honest.
By posting this I hope I've put myself in a position that forces me to follow through. I will periodically put up my progress in the hope it motivates me.
Lets see how I go.
Posted by [jc] at March 1, 2005 11:07 PMmat, ahhh, remember the donuts at the G. I would buy then ONLY when the Tigers won the game. Can you imagine how much heavier I would have been if the Tigers had won any more games.
Posted by: [jc] at March 14, 2005 08:48 PMSupposedly to lose weight you've gotta eat less/better or exercise more - and I'm certainly not gonna eat less! 3 weeks ago I started walking with my neighbour (Andrew's mum) at 0630 for 30 mins, 5 days per week. I'm gradually feeling a bit better - I too have stacked on the weight. Working night shift and having screwed up sleep patterns doesn't exactly help though. A friend of mine lost a heap of weight by replacing soft drinks with water and riding a bicycle regularly. Good luck John - if you want to kick the football around let me know! Oh and cut out the donuts at the MCG come late March!
Posted by: mat at March 13, 2005 12:00 PMUgh don't you hate it when your family feels like they should tell you how much weight you've gained. Good luck with shaping up. :)
Posted by: Katherine at March 5, 2005 08:29 PMGood luck with it! I try to at least walk a bit each day, but I can't remember the last time I played tennis, for example. Sad. To maker matters worse, apparently we all shrink after 30. I bet that cheered you up.
