A God send

Well today I am a happy man. Blue Yes and TDL listen on. TDL, hold off on that Microsoft Frontpage 2002 purchase.

The biggest issue we have when we develop small HTML based web sites is 'How does the client easily maintain their own simple web presence?' We can build a fantastic looking site but dread trying to propose a front end solution to simply update the site. Give them a book 'HTML for dummies' and show them how to use Windows Notepad.

Well thanks to Cheech I have found a sensational and cheap solution ($180 from City Software) to recommend to clients. Macromedia Contribute 2. This is purely used as a frontend. You physically browse the web page you want to modify. Click on Edit Page, make your changes in a WYSIWYG environment and click on Publish. It lets you easily create new pages based on pre-designed templates by your friendly neighbourhood web developer, add images, links, tables and much more.

Blue Yes, let me know what you think. I think this is the solution both you and I were looking for. Check it out. You can even download a 30 day trial.

Who's running the AFL? Eddie?

Brodie Holland only gets 2 weeks, what a joke. Others get more weeks for a lesser offence. I guess it pays to have Eddie as your main man.

Renovations

As you can see I've started to play around with the look of the site. Keep it raining Melbourne so I can spend more time indoors to try and make this site look good (for once). I've also added some additional links down the bottom. These links are the geek in me, sites I visit on a daily basis.

I've been looking at eclipse lately. This has been triggered by the mention of "IBM Lotus Workplace", "Websphere", "Java" etc... I guess we (Lotus Domino Developers) all need to start looking at the direction our career needs to take cause we aren't going to be doing this forever. If you are looking at J2EE then the eclipse link is a great starting point. Setup an Apache server, fire up Tomcat and use eclipse to churn out some Java.

Go check out ASV, there are some great pix of Mars. Today is that day, the closest Mars will ever be in our own short lifetime.

The Optio Mirror Project

Well the weather has been quite dreary so I have yet to take any nice shots with the new Optio S. So I present the Optio Mirror Project (the concept sounds familiar ;) ). This is where I try and get the Optio in the picture. Anyway here are two shots of the digi upstairs in the office.

Went to see 'The Italian Job' on the weekend. If you loved 'Oceans 11' you will love this. I thought it was pretty good. The MINI Cooper S's were hot, me wants one. Fantastic action scenes. Charleze Theron looked mighty fine, and Seth Green was a laugh as always. Overall, it's a movie worth watching on the big screen.

Bring out the cigars

Last night at approximately 7:55pm I became a proud father to a healthy looking Pentax Optio S. If you are wondering it also weighed in at approximately 100 grams. Will have shots up shortly. The mother is also doing well.

Mars Attacks

This is my contribution to the Astronomical Society of JC land. As you can see with the last one, I tried to use the 'I cant hold the camera still' setting. Looks kinda nifty. For all you who have no idea what is going on in our sky at the minute, take a moment and look up. You will see a large bright orange (dot) planet looking back at you. Mars is in the process of making its closest orbit to earth in recorded history. Infact I think it is the closest it has been to earth for the last 60,000 years. Mr Beki, I think you can assist with better quality stats.

Pentax Optio S

Looking for a VERY portable little digital camera to carry around with me everywhere. I've looked at MANY reviews (Canon IXUS II, S400, Pentax Optio S, Olympus MJU300) but I think the Pentax might be the goer. This is what dpreview.com had to say. I've seen it for $899 (Rip Off) and have found it for as low as $749 (@ Southland) and the dude said we could work on the price even further. Take off another 10% duty and this baby will be less than $675. Not a bad price at all.
Just have a look how big (SMALL) it is.

IBM Lotus Workplace

IBM Lotus Workplace, workplace, workplace is all we've been hearing the last few months. Will Domino still be around? Will Webshere take over? What are IBM/LOTUS on about?

Well today I attended the IBM Lotus Workplace Strategy Roadshow. A very impressive seminar indeed (great scones with jam and cream). At last, all whom attended are a few steps closer to understanding what it's all about. The future looks exciting but there is going to be a steep learning curve. Here's a link if you a bored enough to read it.

Do yourself a favour

Went and watched American Pie : The Wedding last night. This has to be the FUNNIEST movie I have seen for a VERY long time. American Pie 1 and 2 were good but this 3rd one was just non stop laughs. Stifler's role was amazing. You have to watch it.

Who else has seen it. What did you think?

Weight Update

That time of the week again. Weighed in at 83.5kg today. Once again at one stage during the week I did weigh in at 83.0kg but the weekend took the better of me. On Saturday a nice chunky BBQ with some friends, some of which I hadn't seen for many years. A night out at Richos place 'The Lounge Room' with a few beers (alcohol a no no) and a Sunday afternoon of lots and lots of deserts. I did manage to get in the usual sessions of running 4 to 6 kms, swimming and tennis.

Hello World

This is my very first blog entry posted using my new ADSL connection. The hardest part of setting this up was getting under the desk to pass the cables through. How easy can it get.

Smoking.
