Where did you get the source from John? Was it on the Mandrake CD or did you have to get it from somewhere else? I'm guessing it comes with Mandrake but you need to recompile the Kernel and select if you want the USB NIC driver to be compiled into the Kernel or as a module. Should be no prob at all.
