Posted by [jc] at August 3, 2003 10:41 PMI think you'll make a FINE sponsor....

She wouldn't have picked you otherwise.
Posted by Cheech at August 1, 2003 10:38 AMBasically like a godparent for a teenager.
Be there 4 her etc.
Nothing to it bar for the service which you will be going to a pre service to tell you what occurs and what you have to do.
And well as far as I remember back then when I was confirmed my "sponsor" bought me a gift.
eg of significance, I was given a watch. But it horse's for courses ask JG.
Hope to catch ya all when I've dropped my bundle in 6 wks
Posted by lc at August 1, 2003 09:49 AM:: Sponsor Requirements ::
A. Everyday, a Sponsor prays for all the inquirers, catechumens and candidates knowing that this work depends on the Holy Spirit for true fruitfulness.
B. Sponsor participates in all the regular meetings/sessions with his/her "soul friend".
C. Sponsor Takes some time each week with your soul-friend to "outreach" and let the Spirit flow through your life by :
Working at getting to know each other; sharing faith stories.
§ * Talking about questions and issues, as they arise.
* General support
* Showing interest
* Asking questions of candidates: challenge, call forth.
* Getting together often, especially at the beginning, to help the inquirers, catechumens and candidates feel at ease and start to know more about our catholic way of life.
D. Finds a way to "keep in touch" with his/her soul-friend even after Christian Initiation has taken place.
E. Makes suggestions to the RCIA team for improvements.
F. Attend all Sponsor meetings.
Posted by Cheech at July 31, 2003 03:49 PMIt's like a godparent type of thing. Any Catholics out there, please explain to all the ignoramous.
Posted by [jc] at July 31, 2003 02:33 PMbeen there, done that!
Posted by blue yes at July 31, 2003 02:21 PMwhat do u mean by sponsor....im sure its not like fly emirates/TAC and collingwood type of sponsorship....or do u mean like godparent type of thing.
Posted by tdl at July 31, 2003 01:54 PMSponsor? why? isn't she an Australian citizen? excuse my ignorance but being an Orthodox 'sponsoring' means something else... :) either way, it's a good feeling to be a sponsor!
Posted by chris at July 31, 2003 12:17 PMSo do you sponsor her for every hour she stays on the right side of her faith : )
or perhaps something a little more involved.
Either way : You should feel PROUD .. I hope to mean something special to my nieces and nephews in their future.
